Flood the Art Market, a charitable organization geared toward helping artists directly affected by Superstorm Sandy, will present Artists Helping Artists, a silent auction featuring work by some of New York’s most coveted artists and hosted by Cey Adams, Kathleen Hanna, Adam Horovitz, Tara Kelly, Hally McGehean, and Clams Rockefeller at Manhattan’s Cristin Tierney Gallery on January 28th, 2013.

All proceeds from Artists Helping Artists will benefit the NYFA Emergency Relief Fund, a major relief effort established to assist artists in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, with leading support by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts, The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and the Lambent Foundation (a project of the Tides Center).
“We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the artistic community,” says Hally McGehean, co-founder of Flood the Art Market. “We have original work donated by established artists from all over the country, and are intentionally setting the starting bids well below the market rate so that we encourage healthy bidding and give people a chance to not only help out, but to also own an incredible piece of art.”
To date, the NYFA Emergency Relief Fund has raised nearly $1.5 million. After opening the application process on November 21st, NYFA has received more than 600 applications totaling over $10 million in requests for funding from artists affected by the storm. “As artists continue to apply, the demand is far outpacing our resources,” says Dena Muller, Director of New Initiatives at NYFA. “NYFA is grateful to all our collaborators and supporters for contributing to the growth of the Emergency Relief Fund.”
Additionally, Artists Helping Artists will feature specialty cocktails provided by Brooklyn Gin as well as a custom playlist chosen by two of the evening’s hosts, hip-hop icon and New York native Adam Horovitz (aka Ad-Rock) and Kathleen Hanna, New York City based artist and member of Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, and The Julie Ruin.
Artists Helping Artists will be held on Monday, January 28th at the Cristin Tierney Gallery from 5-10pm. People are encouraged to come early and bid generously.
Flood the Art Market’s turntable logo was conceived by Marcos Chavez‘s Communications Design class at Parsons The New School for Design and generously implemented by TODA. T-shirts, available at the event, were printed by Pamela Thompson‘s class at High Road School in Norwalk, CT. Promotions by Jon Bier and Industry Fiend.
